In summer of 2007 we are starting to develop annotations for a generalized human disease tagger. Our source files will be PubMed abstracts dealing with all types of human diseases. We will use the same build of WordFreak that we used for office letters, and our definition and guidelines for the Disease entity type will be the same as for Condition in the office letters (subject to possible modification, as always in a new effort). In fact, since we're using the same WordFreak the actual tag will be Condition. The WordFreak is here; set Annotation = Letters 1.
We hope to extend this effort to other entity types, such as Organism, but since the ITRE grant funding runs only through the end of August we are starting with an entity type that we are already familiar with and equipped for.
