Using The E-Mail List [2004-09-21] *

When asking a question about a particular text, please include both

Think of it as a labor-saving device. When you have the text on your screen, it only takes you a few seconds to copy it and paste it into your e-mail. For me, or another senior member of the group, or another annotator trying to answer your question, when all we have is one word and the PMID we have to open a(nother) browser window, go to Entrez PubMed, paste the number in, open the abstract, and scan it to find the word you're talking about just in order to understand the question.

AIM

AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) is helpful in working together virtually when annotators can't arrange to be physically working together. You don't have to subscribe to AOL to get or use it, and you can configure AIM so only people on your "buddy list" can contact you (see below). Download AIM from here.

This is from AIM Help : Controlling Your Privacy : Buddy Privacy : About Buddy Privacy:

To allow only buddies to send you messages:
  1. On the My AIM menu, point to Edit Options, and then click Edit Preferences.
  2. Click Privacy in the Category group.
  3. Select Allow only the users below.
  4. Click Add Name.
  5. Type the name of the user you want to add in the Allow List.
  6. Click OK to save the setting and close the dialog box.

CHANGE NOTES

2004-09-21: Added section "Using The E-Mail List". Deleted obsolete section "Discussion forum", which had been hidden in an HTML comment since sometime after we got the mailing lists working.
